I made a map pack of some custom maps I've come across. Some of these are pretty good. I've included some that I don't like. I dunno, mileage may vary.

These go into:

X:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\username\team fortress 2\tf\maps

For those who don't know, servers push down maps if you don't have them. They get stored in the above folder.

Could we get these maps into rotation on the server?

Here's a link to download the zip of bsps. (27mb)

CP_Cantiville - Capture Point Map. Seems to me like an old CS map.
CP-Lazytown - CQC CP Map
CP-Rats_Alpha - This is a huge map - like "bathrooms" for UT.
CTF-Well - not included in this zip due to file size. Its worth looking up.
CTF-Battlecreek - Awesomely huge sniper map.
CTF-Mach2 - Small but fun map imho
DM - Dual Duel - a very small arena map that would sure to be absolute madness if any more than 4 people are in it at any one time.

Let's get some more maps going....I like some of the stock maps but am getting bored of them.

Bump for custom maps making it onto our servers.

Fuck, give me the login - I'll do it myself.

All the custom maps I've tried have been utter garbage. I'd rather hammer bent nails into concrete than play on some of them. If any maps do go on the server, can we all have a vote or something, so a really gay map doesn't find its way onto an otherwise (save the wierd time limit problem) untarnished server.

I imagine that any maps that would make it onto the server would have to be tested first with some of the player base.

Hope so man. Lets organize a custom map night and just orgy it out on all the custom maps we can find, keeping some of the potentially playable ones in mind for the full server.

Two issues for now that we're working on: map download redirect and standing up another TF2 server that has custom maps loaded we can test out. I believe there is a redirect model (we don't want our maps downloaded off our game servers - the traffic is deadly to our costs every month).

Just curious, how much of a load are you talking about, it terms of bandwidth, when you've had CoD and RO with lots of people connecting and downloading? Don't know if you'd have a record of this, but I'm just curious.

Both COD and RO use a web server redirect for files too.

I don't know how TF2 is configured but with RO and COD we could specify the redirect server to something other than the game server. This helps with bandwidth as well as download performance. If TF2 doesn't have the same option it would make it tough to host the maps on the game server itself for the reasons Seeker said above.

TF2 does have http redirect, but it's not as simple as CoD.

But it would be the same as any other source game? I'm sure theres examples all over the place.
